Key Date 1901s Barber dime found

I went back across the street to the Christmas tree farm MDing. At the start of my second row I found a 1901s Barber dime. It needs some cleaning but I am going to see if it is worth having it professionaly cleaned, graded and slabbed. In bad shape the book has it at $80.00 bucks. I also found an 1888 Indian head penny.

I'd hunt you down and beat you with a roll of 40's if you melted one of these JD............LOL

WTG, AW !

I would not even think of cleaning the coin; beyond perhaps soaking it in some warm water (w/ a mild dish detergent), rinsing and patting it dry. As an MDer, you know this will loosen and remove any dirt, but not harm the coin. Especially as this is a key date.

Again, very nice find !

That's a banner find if I ever saw one, congrats awhitser!

Don't waste your money sending it to be slabbed though. They'll just ship it right back to you in a clear plastic "body bag" with the designation "environmentally damaged," minus your grading fees.

That dime looks fine just the way it is.

Don't do anything to it.

No soap, water, acetone, thioureic acid, olive oil, etc....

That dime looks to be in pretty excellent condition for having come out of the ground.

Congrats on the find, but you do know you are posting in the coin roll hunting thread, right??

Thanks for the congrats. I may be old but not senile yet. I know this is the CRH thread but some of my friends here don't go to the MD forum so when I find a stellar coin I post it here as well.

No cleaning in the field or at home until I check to see if a coin is worth anything. No finger rubbing in the field either, it will scratch them. I just blow on them to get off the dirt (hopefully) so I can see what it is.

Thanks for the tip on not slabbing. I didn't think about it being a banner find. I would be so stoked to have it up there.

WTG AW!!! Yes, I would say that's a keeper....ha! Great find!! I hope it makes the banner too. Congrats on a job well done AW.

Keep em coming & good luck on the next one too......

They'll probably move your post - nice dime!
Barber dimes never seem to come out of the ground in that condition.
Congrats!

Well if it hasn't moved yet I guess it never will.
