Northeast Park site of first Kewanee pool
When the Kewanee Park District was established 100 years ago in 1919, the first park to be developed was Northeast. It was built on property previously devoted to brick making and coal mining and included a swimming pool billed as the largest in the state of Illinois.
The idea of turning the property into a park was suggested by Kewanee real estate broker A.J. Anderson at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in 1919.
