I been going though boxes of half dollars and several of the Kennedy Half Dollar coins are in near mint condition. I am thinking about seeing if I can collect the whole set of P's and D's that are in very good/excellent condition. I know these coins are just clad, but it is something to do while looking for silver. Has anyone collected the Kennedy Half Dollar coins "because they are there?"

:coffee2: Welcome to TNET & this hobby. I only collect the silver & NIFC halves after 1970. The rest I just dump & reuse the money to look for more. I feel if you keep the clad, it dilutes the thrill of the hunt. But this is a hobby & the choice is yours for what you would want to do.

I was able to complete 3 sets (except for 2012 and 2013), 1 for each of my kids, by looking through my local sources of half dollar boxes for AU clad before the half dollar sources ran out where I live. After my local sources ran out, I bought the older Kennedys I needed from a TNet member. I enjoyed doing it, and my kids will eventually have something they will remember me by, so it was a win-win for me.

Yes. I'm assembling an Intercept Shield album of silvers, proofs, and other NIFCs and upgrade them with better ones.

I started a book because of just what you said. It is something to do while looking for silver. It has also gotten me into understanding more about the coin varieties, lower minted years, etc. It adds to the hobby, and it really can't hurt. Also, it helped my understanding that depending on condition a lot of silver coins are worth more than their silver content
