Hi friends! I'm new to this forum and have just got back into md. I've had several detectors over the yrs but when my grandson 'lost' my CZ-6, it took the wind out of my sails. Just ordered a CZ3D and took my 9 yr old to a shoot today put on by local club. He seems fairly interested in it and I was advised by a club member to get him the above. $99 and a 5 yr warranty appeals to me, but thought you folks might have some knowledge of this machine or better suggestions. He'll be coin shooting primarily, the club has some 'salted' grounds, most are w/ in an inch or two depth. TIA for your help..........DiggerDan

I'd go with a brand like Whites, Fisher, Minelab, Tesoro, Garrett......Resale is alot better on them plus if he doesnt enjoy detecting they always make good backups. Garretts lower priced units seem to be popular like the 150 and 250.

Yes I would stick with the Whites, Garrett, Tesoro. Minelab isn't for beginners and Fisher, is not what it used to be. Is this the one that lost your CZ-6? How did he lose it?

They're two different individuals. I don't know for sure what happened to the cz6, lost is probably meaning 'sold' in this case. I'm in Arkansas but from Illinois. The 22 yr old grandkid is still sponging off my daughter in Florida. He was 18 when I loaned him the cz6. Supposedly it got left at my ex wifes [his granny] in Illinois, lost when she made a move. Nobody is talking. Stuff like this bothers me more than it should, I guess.

Thanks for the advice.

I'd be bothered too, I think we all would. A cz-6 is a great machine and not something thats easily "lost". I know if I lost anything of my grandparents i'd at least replace it. See if you can find a Classic ID for your grandson or a Prism, they're simple machines with great target ID. It was my first real machine years back and found me plenty of good stuff. You might want to keep it at your house for him though before it gets lost. :)

Thanks all. The local club [27 members] has about a 50 yd across circle salted out at the local lake. Mostly copper pennies and a little silver. This young man is the last of my gal pal's foster kids. They both live w/ me. I've got another detector on order [cz3D] but want a cheapie to see if the kid is going to get into it or spend his time skipping rocks into the lake, lol. The grand kid is 1200 miles away and can stay there.

My buddy just offered to loan me a Radio Shack Discovery 2000 which I found pdf owners manual for tonight. Looks like I can set the disc where he'll just find coins if he bothers to look. They all are less than 2" deep or on top of the ground.

I took him to a hunt they had Sat 12/13, those folks have a lot left to learn. I'm chomping at the bit to get this cz to the old park in town, [1880]

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you with us.

I would reccommend the Tesoro line. I have only had Tesoro's, so my opinion is a bit biased. The Compadre that I have is lightweight (2.5 pounds) and is very easy to operate. I love mine. Hope it helps.

I'd recomend a 10.5 coil for your CZ3d, it was my favorite Fisher coil for the CZ line and goes super deep on the old stuff while covering more ground. I never used the 8in after. :)

I wish I would have known about this earlier. We're doing a "Buy One - Get One for a Buck" sale and the CZ-3D you got would have totally qualified you to get a second detector for a dollar. The selection of detectors for a buck are PERFECT for EXACTLY this reason - something easy, fun, and great for beginners. I'm glad you're getting the lil guy involved and I wish you much luck with your NEW CZ!!

thanks all for the tips and advice. got good news and bad, lol. bad is we got an ice storm here, beau coup cold, don't think it will hit 30 degrees. good news is my new machine isn't here yet.

got the kid reading owners manual on the Disc 2000, soon as he can explain a few things to me I'll let him fire it up.
