I think it's beautiful! Hope you took it home with you. I'm not seeing shale Brian, but I will go get my book & look at shales. I am by no means an expert.

I just went through my book looking for any with similar looks & came up with this one. It is called Variscite.
Hydrated phosphate of aluminum& iron.
color & luster: pale green to emerald green, also bluish green, colorless: vitreous, waxy. Lots of other info in the book. So check out Audubon Society Field guide to North American Rocks & Minerals. Don't know if this is what your rock is, but it certainly has the same look.
