If they have holes they may be straps to lift the concrete (lid) from a vault.

ok, I got the photo, it is hard to see the concrete but it is there, the first one is of the thing and the 2nd one is where it is from the back of the garage.

from the way they are positioned it seems like maybe corner footing for another structure. The angles seem to co-inside to the garage foundation and the holes in the top of the metal could be for attaching a chalk line. All just guesses tho' and you sure made quite a hole with that trowel. Way to dig , girl.

If it was going to be a post wouldn't you just put the post in the concrete? I would lean more towards an antenna tower....maybe for a HAM radio or a CB base station. Just a guess really. JD in WV

Perhaps they were going to add a lean to to the garage. Or maybe there was one at one time a structure beyond the back of garage. Curious as to why the blue/white paint seam on the garage wall aligns with the embedded brackets. it seems that a 2' overhang would line up with the edge of garage on the right.

I checked all around the area with the detector and that is the only corner that has something there.

seems like if they are only about 2" X 4" and light weight metal wouldn"t really support much like towers or poles.

Are there any holes drilled in them? I think I can see one on the top of the top piece.

Looks like modern galvanized brackets used in construction.
They really look like post caps used for something else. Maybe it was simple a stop for a post and the post simply rested on the concrete.

Now-a-days we dont concrete posts into the ground, we concrete brackets that wont rust or rot into the ground, then attach the post to them.

Check your local lumber store and see their construction brackets section.

I asked my brother in law about it and he said one of the previous owners had a dog kennel there.

That could also explain the two-tone paint on the wall

You may be on to something there. Good point.
