So I went on a detecting trip to an area I’ve hiked and scouted many times before. I’ve done a lot of research and can’t find where anyone has actually lived in the area. I’m also an amateur to relic and treasure hunting. I’m in South Carolina in what is called the olde English district and the history is rich in the area. I’ve grown up on all the stories of lost and hidden treasures. The area I was hunting in has been documented in the revolutionary and civil wars. The reason I decided to metal detect was on previous hikes I’ve noticed a lot of broken pottery sherds. The majority being the blue and white that I’ve always seen at history museums, online, etc. When I say a lot I mean thousands. It’s everywhere on the trail. I hiked off the trail and I found a rock outcrop alone. The area has many many rock outcrops but this one stood out in the woods. I ran my detector and got a hit between the crack of two boulders. One is not movable the other could be moved by maybe two strong men. The first thing I pulled out was this broken lock piece with a crown , VR , and patent imprinted on it. I did clean it up to read it. Then I pulled out what to me looks like a strap on a chest. I kept getting hits but couldn’t find the source I believe it’s under the boulder. While digging down deep in the crack I pulled out a couple of non metal objects. Please help me make since of this. Am I being to hopeful and have a vivid imagination? Because I think I’m into hidden civil war treasure or at the least personal effects that were buried to be hidden from Sherman’s troops and foragers.
