I have been wanting one of these for over 3 years and could not afford one but I just received one on saturday that has hardly been used. I traded a pistol (taurus 357) and an epiphone electric guitar for it plus more.......He was asking 600.00 or trade on some hunting stuff just for the MXT. I found out he wanted a guitar for his son for a christmas present and I got a garrett ace 250 to boot, a nice whites detector bag and 2 pair of headphones which one is a new pair of whites and a real nice finds pouch. I am selling the ace 250 and the other 2 units I have along with the coils for them. I may buy a DD style coil for the MXT. The only reason the guy was selling it(trading it) was because he was not from the area in which he lived and he could not get permission to hunt anywhere!! I really felt bad about it when he told me the reason.....Heck if I would have know it I would have taken him out but I did not know the guy. He bought it new at his local dealer and only used it 2 or 3 times on vacation at the beach!!! I am so excited and cannot wait to learn how to use it. Are there any hints on using this machine? I really like the 2 tone ID in relic mode. What few air test I have done was really surprising in the boost mode. I could not believe how far it would pick up a quarter. I know this is not a real test but I tell you it was way higher than the other whites I have used in the past and way better than what I have been using presently. I guess I will find out once the weather breaks a bit and I can go looking this season. Any opinions are welcome. Tim

Congrats on the MXT, I think you have acquired one of (the DFX being the other) the best machines available. The only thing I did not like was the lack of volume control unless you use headphones. I hope I don't get tooooo lambasted for my partiality to Whites.

The best advice I can give you is take it out and play with it, learn it and trust it. I like the DD 6x10 coil, a little deeper and covers a little more ground.
PS: dig any signals you don't understand or recognize.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal ! I also am fairly new to the MXT (look at one of my posts I started, got some good tips from several people!), only have about 3 weeks under my belt with it...
Everyone says practice...this surely helps! Trying a test garden gives you some familiarity with it and the responses and was beneficial for me.
Yesterday we hit a school with it and I did adjust the TRAC toggle to the Lock position, resulting it what seemed to be much better performance (at least in that soil) then the typical Ground setting...much less false reads and bouncing all over.
When you do hit on a coin, you know it.
Good luck, I'll be watching to see what others say also ;D

I think you will like it alot I've only had mine since the end of april this year so still learning myself but have got 10, 1800's coins so far. I got 6 IH's, [2] 2 centers, seated dime, and seated quarter from the 1800's plus 1942 merc 16 wheats and 1938 class ring so far. Don't count the clad not really in it for that I like the old stuff. Good luck and happy hunting. I usually run in coin and jewelry mode but sometimes where there's lots of iron I will use relic mode. If you want to see what I've found with mine go to the Indiana section and look in finds you should see 3 different post from wingmaster there. This is my first detector and I love it.

The 6x10 DD Eclipse coil will put you in high cotton. It's the only way to go.Congrats!

I had a DD style coil for my xterra 50 and I really liked it too. You could go to town searching a field and cover alot of ground...I am going to keep my eye out for one of those and another pinpointer since I sold it too with that minelab I had.
