A few days ago I mentioned my pick-up bank had told me they had a lady bring in a bunch of buffalo nickels from her late fathers collection. And the lady had a coin appraiser tell her they weren't worth anything.

Well I just picked up $28 in nickels and have opened 2 rolls (that's all for now have to get back to work). But so far I've pulled all Buffalos except 4 common dates, and 1 war nickel. There are 23 buffs that I cannot read the date at all, 12 the date is faint (I've got them soaking in vinegar). The rest all have readable dates which go from 1920 to 1938 and I'd guess none are more than good condition. I will look better at them after work and try to post pics as well.

Again, I mentioned I'm not too knowledgeable on nickels, if anybody has any advice or good knowledge please let me know!

If they are unreadable, then they arent worth but 30 cents a piece anyway. so cleaning THOSE nickels give them nothing but value IF they are rare...

I only have tried cleaning a couple....but have finished tallying up everything....

121 I cannot read a date
40 - have a partial date, but I can't make out the entire date (possible clean?)

1917 x 1
1919 x 5
1920 x 8, 1920D x 1 (barely visible)
1923 x 8
1924 x 7, 1924D x 1
1925 x 5
1926 x 6
1927 x 12, 1927D x 4
1928 x 10, 1928D x 1
1929 x 11, 1929D x 2
1930 x 15, 1930D x 1
1934 x 10, 1934D x 3
1935 x 52, 1935D x 2, 1935S x 2
1936 x 90, 1936D x 5, 1936S x 1
1937 x 64, 1937D x 3
1938D x 2

Doesn't look like any errors. Anyone think I can get anything for these on ebay or CL?

Thanks & HH

Good finds. Dreaming of finding a buffalo nickel myself. Yesterday got a 1939 Jefferson :BangHead: , counts almost like a buffalo ;D
One more year and that would have been a buffalo :-\
