hi everyone! just got back from a week in ocean city and after about 4 nites of detecting i came away with about $15 in clad (give or take a few cents....i didnt actually count it all up!)a cheap toe ring, a silver looking ring that is not marked but looks like it could be silver, another toe ring marked 925 silver,an earing marked 925, and a cheapo kids ring. while i didnt find that million dollar diamond i sure had a lot of fun looking for it! if you are ever in ocean city, one thing you should check out is the SHIPWRECK MUSEUM in FENWICK ISLAND DE. they had some fascinating stuff on display including, cannons, muskets, gold coins and bars, gold jewelry of all types, silver bars, coins and jewelry, artifacts from the titanic, the edmund fitzgeruld, the atocia (hope i spelled those names right). all kinds of fascinating stuff and much of it found in local waters and on local beaches. in fact, they had a dinner plate packed to the point of overflowing with english coppers found in the sand on coin beach( which is 5 minutes from the museum). and the best part about it was that admission is free! well........i guess its time to go back to the daily grind till next years vacation.it will probably take me another year to read all of the posts you guys made while i was gone!

Sounds like you had a great time. That is a cool museum isnt it.I dont have a water machine but they rent the fisher 1280x there for $40/day.It is a good time hunting there.HH

Hollowpointred, the wreck with the coppers is the Faithful Steward. I hit the beach north of Indian River inlet awhile back but didn't go far enough South. The road and parking has changed. They make you park about 1/2 mile north of the beach now at the 2nd road. The 1st road is where "coin beach" is. So, it's a long hike just to get to the beach in the first place from the parking area and then you have to hump another 1/2 mile back towards the inlet. Too far for these legs to go, and I don't have a beach pass for the truck. Oh well, maybe next time.

I go to that museum every time that I'm down that way. It is very nice. It would be nicer if it had its own buiding. I've heard that they have more in storage than they have out on dispay.

Here is the website if any body is interested.

Glad you had a good time. Ocean City and that area is very nice and relaxing.

The beaches in that area are so well hunted it is better if you wait for a good northeaster (storm) then get there as soon as you can. The storm surge will carve the sand and let you get to sand that even the best detectors can,t reach (depth). You have a good chance of a good find then. Heres wishing to a good storm soon!

hey ed, that area of beach downtown by the inlet is really old. do people ever recover old turn of the century coins in the sand down there after the storms or are they so deep at this point it doesnt even matter?

All that sand was pumped in from about a mile out in the ocean a while back for the beach replenishment program. It would be great if the tore up the parking lot though. I bet there's some nice coins under there. Some of the old houses on the bay side near division street would be nice to hunt. Some of those date to the early 1900's. In fact the Buntings are something like my 3rd or 4th cousins. I'd have to ask my mom.

Towcritter is right on the nose. Too much beach replenishment. Never heard of anything with age other than up by LEWES DE. This area was the ocean connection point for people crossing the bay and eastern shore form Claibourn to Lewes around 1850 to 1900,s. A good route to look for older homes.
