JUST FOUND 9 V NICKELS

Was this the old house you were searching? Ant has a post under "Cleaning" for coins.
Excellent find, AARRGGG.

Is this er, your house?
Or, are you one of those guys wearing the black mask, visiting often between 2 & 4am? Lol!

Loot is loot no matter where you find it; keep them coming! :)

You can stick them into a slit in a potato. It will leave the patina, but eat off the black and stuff. You may need to do this a couple times. Scrub gently with soap and a toothbrush in between treatments. It works great! I just did an Indian Head that way.
Be sure to wash them good with soap and water when the desired state is achieved.

Hope this helps.

use baking soda/ warm water and gentlly rub between your fingers it should clean them up nice congrats and hh

ElvisFan - Those are some sweet finds. Post picks when you're done cleaning them.

If they are really grungy
I have used "Tarn-ex" and a good soaking
I had some I still could not identify after Electric Nuke Job
Put it in "Tarn-ex", because it was no jewel anyway
Cleaned up good enough to figure out the date
And had a nickle color too.

HH TIM ;D

Sweet finds....Tisk, Tisk, Tisk Tarn-ex is a major No, no. Tarn-ex for one eats away layers of metal that a coin grading service can see. Tarn-ex for two will leave a residue that in time mixed with air will cause Dark Ugly Tarnish on your coins. If its just caked on dirt then use just water, or an electrolysis unit. (easy to make at home) If its corrosion, then its a lost cause and should not even bother to clean them.

Keep @ it and HH!!

i used tarnx on 1 nickel long ago and it turned jet freakin black so no no

I plan to 2x2 these coins and sell them anyone interested contact me they grade fair to about good 50 cents to a buck each...DAVE p.s. 2 bucks for the 1889 semi key date...I will try to get a pic if I can find a cam to use.
