just browsing ebay, why did this half dollar error go for over 1000?

At least 2 errors here, both in judgement. First error by seller thinking this was an error coin and worth more than face value. Second error was by the buyer accepting the statement by the seller, probably without looking closely at the coin in question.
 

No question it was his own bid being it was a zero feedback buyer.
 

I don't see any bidder buying this coin for $1,000 and not seeing the actual error. I say a shill a bidder as the culprit.
