Hello! Wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking on here for a while and finally signed up. Caught the fever a few years back. Been reading a lot of the good ol stories on here to try and expand my knowledge. Apparently, I got into the hobby too late and missed all the fun with all the new laws.

Anyways, seems like a good group here (who's left anyways). Thanks for all the things you share. Hope to be able to learn more.

Here's a shot of some of the gold I found last weekend in the central cascades.
Cheers!

Great pan there and welcome to the forum.

Welcome! I kinda fell off the forum for a while, still been getting gold detecting just havnt posted anything for quite a while. Maybe I will do a catch up thread on the metal detecting for gold forum here in the near future.

What methods are you using to get your gold?

Hey Josh! Would be fun to hear about your stories as well!
I mostly do panning, and a little sluicing. Wish I was able to do a little more, but laws..... Metal detecting sounds like it would be a fun hobby to get into, besides the initial investment.

Boulder Troll, Welcome! You'll definitely find help with this group. They've been tremendously helpful for me. Good looking gathering of the yellow stuff. Good luck.
Thanks Desert gold digger! It does seem like there are some great people around here. I had joined a club hoping to get that before, but didn't find a lot of help. I wonder if they got suspicious because I tend to ask a lot of questions at times. :dontknow: Ended up learning from youtube and whatever my pan told me.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon. For metal detecting, treasure hunting and gold panning you are never too late. You might have to spend a little more time and work a little harder, but you will still find some fine goodies!

Some club members might tend to be more interested in what they can find, rather than helping someone starting out. Maybe they fear they might lose out on a find if they impart knowledge. That happens in all walks of life. Some People are just more interested in their fortune. It's sad some people are like that.

Those on the Forum are for the most part, more than willing to impart knowledge that can help someone trying to learn. You just need to listen, think about what they offered, and then take it, or leave it. Not all advice works for everyone, so you still need to do your own research.

Keep asking questions, and eventually something will click, and be helpful to your situation.

Those are some good-looking flakes! I have been in Utah for the last several years and we don't have much gold so I'm missing Washington for sure. Not that WA had as much CA or anything.
Hi Owen, Guess where I was last weekend, Horseshoe Bend and I went into the tunnel and filmed the journey. I now can keep up with you, my 30MPH electric bike might be faster than you, lol. BoulderTroll awesome job and you are smart not to share where you found the gold, it is getting so rare to find a good place to mine here in Washington state. P.S. I know where you found the gold.

What? Were you spying on me with a drone? :laughing7:
I wouldn't share much details on locations here for sure. I've got some friends that wanted to learn panning, and I'll take them out to some spots to try and teach them.

You're right, definitely not late enough to be able to enjoy the hobby! Just too late to be able to use all the tools. I would love to be able to try highbanking or dredging for example... I started just after they banned it in WA

You are so right, and I've been a little guilty of that myself. I was a bit feverish when I started out. I've spent some time re-evaluating life and realized it's more fun to share and see that beaming smile on the face of a child who see's gold in their pan for the first time. That's way more rewarding than adding to my hoard.
Looking forward to more learning and sharing here 😀 I'm enjoying reading up on your adventures right now on the "placer claim mined out" thread

Welcome from another web-footed Washingtonian... :hello:

Nice looking gold, for sure. :occasion14:

I'm about 30 miles east of Mt. Vernon, and yes, there is some nice gold to be found in the central Cascades, although it's a bit of a hike for a day trip.

Thanks Dizzy!
You're not wrong about the distance. I usually try to do multi-day camping trips to make the most out of it. For a day trip, I'd be spending more time driving than prospecting. Hoping to squeeze one more trip in before it gets too miserable out there.

Not spying on you but have been there and mined the area before, in some areas the gold is very distinctive, keep your secret, finding places to mine here is very hard now, all the gold we have been mining came from the 1995-1966 historic flood. Until we get a flood like that again unless you know where that flood deposited gold. One example is the Sultan River I have over 10,000 hrs. mining it , so much gold came down during the 1995 flood, hundreds of miners were on the river after the flood, I personally dug out just over 2lbs. of gold. Sadly, now it is almost impossible to get down to the Sultan because of all the clear cutting they have done and since there are 2 dams on the river, they now control the way the river floods which has deposited a lot of silt on top of the 1995 gold deposits. Since I was there before and after the big flood I know how to get to flood deposit.

I think I recall reading about your success on the Sultan, something about maybe quitting your day job based on the gold you were getting.
I definitely didn't know about the historic floods though, so that'll give me something new to learn about.
