On a recent walk I shot over 300 photos, (good digital with a 150mm lens) and after getting back to the computer where I could look in more detail I found this......

In different light angles the box is perfictly square but when I went back for a closer look I found this...

There were so many of them around the primary site that the humming was audible for several hundred feet! Yes there is a nest, and by the photo I believe them to be the kind that get real pissed off if you mess with them, and I am allergic so suggestions?

Sheldon,
I dont see the box [square]! if you have one, it means Cache-can you post it if you do..
and the critter you posted on the flower is the American Honey Bee, pretty benign if it is
not an Afracianize type..I sure they are not because they would have attacked you right
away, in force...what you do have is a nice collection of honey somewhere..in an old tree
or a cavity in the rock.... I would leave it if you dont know how to 'smoke' bees into submission
and wear a bee-keeper outfit especially if you really are alergic..if you are indeen it would behove
you to go to the Doc and ask for a vile of antidote just to be safe. I carry an antidote of rattler
venom for my dog who pokes is nose under rocks I would never dream of....

Based on what I see, leave it till winter. Move up or down the trail and find one of the others to work on. Bees are pretty precious now a days and we need all we can get. Lovely picture of the bee!

This photo was taken sometime in May of last year, notice how the different lighting affects the shot.
