I went back to an old schoolhouse that I have permission to detect and have been there 8 times already but thought I would give it a try with my “new” to me Bigfoot on an Eagle II. I mostly found nails, and a few interesting things...railroad spike, part of a harmonica, skeleton key, modern scout tie...but then I found an Indian Head/Buffalo Nickel 1935 sitting on top of the dirt in a washout area. I am glad I rechecked as just about an inch below there were two more nickels...another Buffalo and then a 1911 V nickel! This was the first time that a piece of foil was exciting! I opened it to reveal it was a Necco wrapper! I was bummed when I heard earlier this year that Necco was going to go out of business as I am one of those few people who love to have a pack of Neccos on hand. View attachment 1604046

Congratualtions on the nice hunt! :icon_thumleft:

Too bad about Necco candy! :sad10:

I always liked Necccos growing up in the 50's.I don't see them being sold anywhere lately. It's too bad but tastes change

I did too LlTom...I couldn’t find how the foil packaging that I found detecting was used. It pears to have “almond” in the text and “cr....” maybe crunch.... but I couldn’t find any candy with such wrapping to date this wrapper. It was at a late 1800s school but near what looked like a newer well.

Those buff nickels have the coolest patina ever. It looks like you clicked "art mode" on photoshop. Gary

Thanks, Gary. Just soap and water, a little fingernail clearing, and water to show more detail in photo. One buffalo I can’t get a date visible and was tempted to try electrolysis or peroxide, but liked the matching colors and didn’t want to ruin it. Thanks for commenting. Kim
