I was out setting some posts this weekend. I start off using a little cheap metal detector before I start digging. It’s just an old ritual my dad passed down to me. I get to one spot and the metal detector goes crazy. I just use my dad’s old detector. It’s probably 450 years old itself. Anyway, I start digging and I start smelling something that smells like a 500 year old, wet ashtray! It was some STANK! Then, I come across several hunks of rocks. I throw them off to the side and check the metal detector again. Nothing. The rocks are what set it off the first time. So, I go back to digging my post hole. It is hot, and that sun is bright. I turn around to grab my water, and the rocks I had tossed off to the side were sparkling. This was no regular sparkle. These rocks were beautiful. I finished setting my posts, I grab my pile of stanky rocks, and head home.

I did dust off these rocks with a soft paintbrush and some water, but I haven’t done anything else to them. I have taken tons of pictures trying to get them to sparkle like they did yesterday, but no camera will be able to make that happen. These photos just look so blahhh.

I live in Central Alabama. Could this possibly be a hunk of Kimberlite or is this just a hunk of funky looking concrete mix? Either way, Im keeping it in my kitchen window. It sparkles in the morning sun. Lol

Anyone have any thoughts?

looks like concrete to me . anaerobic soil stinks , old concrete not so much.

concrete often contains wire mesh , and some rocks set a detector off as well. we call them hot rocks.
