Found a neat 3 pound ax head today. Boring to some people, but it seems to be an old one. Any guesses as to the age of this ax? I'm guessing late 1800's, but I could be wrong. Give it your best shot!

It appears that someone used it too many times as a hammer and really smashed it in. No idea of the age though. Sorry

I found a similar one a couple years ago. I keep all axes and hatchets. Storing them is becoming a problem. No idea of the age. I always figured the big heavy ones were older, early 1800's. Just a guess. There's a site online that can tell you how old by the shape of the axe head. I'm still hoping to find a trade axe. I dig most all the overload iron signals just to see if its a tool. I found two very old shingle hatchets this week. And four axe heads last week from one site. That's my best shot. Congrats!

Looks like it could lead to some nice old treasures. I would hammer that spot. (no pun intended)

Yup, I'll be checking out that area with a fine tooth comb! Thanks for the input, guys!

Nice old ax. Looks like it was used for a splitting wedge long after the handle broke.
