Went to a massive community wide sale on Saturday. Unfortunately, I did not realize that the sale was Fri, Sat, Sun so I missed the first day - big mistake. I could tell many folks HAD good stuff but that it had been picked over already...

Managed to squeak in some scores on Saturday anyhow. Picked up the following:

-3 large boxes full of jukebox 45 records, mainly late 50s through early 70s, one box had water damage so I had to throw away many of those records but I saved as many as I could, probably close to 500 records all together - $50
-3 computer towers, one of them ended up being a fairly new Lenovo IdeaCentre desktop - $12
-new in box Mueller refrigeration copper coil - $2
-small gold filled pin - 50 cents
-3 newer cell phones, working halfway decent phones - 50 cents each
-0.5 gram 14k gold heart pendant - 50 cents
-2 neat glass insulators, one of them says "A T & T Co" - 50 cents
-"super soaker" water toy - 50 cents

I spent the rest of the day Saturday and ALL DAY Sunday going through the 45s. I was blown away by the contents of the boxes. Sure, there was some typical Sinatra and Bette Middler but I did find a ton of Doo-Wop , R&B, Soul, rock, and even a few rare Northern Soul records.

Not pictured are the remnants of the bulk of it. I have 2 full crates: 4 for $1 and $1 each
Pictured on the left are all the records worth $5 or more. On the right are the records worth $2-4 each.
I will be able to unload these at the flea market and people will gobble these up very quickly. I should be able to sell these for years to come and make AT LEAST $1000 off these records. This was a big score for me. A lot of work going through them all but it was worth it. I even added about 20 to my personal collection.

Great haul of 45s. Are there any blues in the lot? Some can be worth $$$.

Very little blues in this lot. It was mainly classic late 50s jukebox stuff such as doo-wop, r&b, and soul.

45's are an investment - like stocks . I was listening to our local "talk'' Radio station yesterday - he was talking to a record store owner in Portland - sales have increased 40 % in the past 2 years . New record shops are popping up everywhere .
Buy Them , Find Them - condition is important - The sleeves make them worth mere .
Velvet Underground ( very valuable )

After hearing a lot of talk here about 45's. I finally bit the bullet and bought 60 45 records for 9.00. A lot of these are late seventies stuff. I looked up a few of them but they seem to be worth about 1 to 2 dollars a piece. My only outlet really is EBay. Am I better off selling these individually or putting them in small lots? I really don't know much in this area. I didn't mean to hijack the thread jerseyben but I wanted to hear your ideas. Great Score by the way.

Nice haul Jerseyben.

My local thrift bags 45's in lots of 3 so the middle one is a crap shoot.

Got lucky last week and found British import LPs of Clapton, Simon and Garfunkel, Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers , a Geoff Love autographed James Bond Movie themes and a few Jazz albums (german import). All the covers were vg+ and the discs were vg+ to near mint. Ouch, .99 each.

I cant speak for ebay. Unless you have a rare disc, ebay record buyers typically only want top quality condition. That is why I only sell my nm or still sealed records on ebay. Everything else goes to the flea market. I typically look up what a disc sells for on ebay, then I take the lower of the sold values and cut that by about 40%. That is typically what I sell my discs for at the flea market.

To answer your question: I personally think selling dollar or 2 discs on ebay to be a huge waste of time. How much are you gonna make? 50 cents each? Records are a very personal kind of sale and for that reason, selling them in person makes the most sense. In my area, record buyers are aggressively buying discs. Every single time I set up at the flea market, records are the #1 thing I sell. Try selling them at the flea market or on CL.
