Jones Beach, New York Finally Re-opens!

Got a call this morning around 11am, that Field 4 was open, and Field 6 was about to open at Jones Beach State Park, on Long Island. Needless to say, I dropped everything, geared up and hit the road! I got there around 130pm, stayed through low tide at 415pm, and finally was just too beat to keep swinging by 700pm. Pretty much sanded back in, as it has been four-days since the storm. After about two-hours of clad and iron, a couple stopped me and we talked a little about the hobby. He has just retired, she loves the beach, and they both think they might like to give detecting a go. Nice couple. We chatted about three-minutes and I put the headphones on and headed back into the surf.. BAM!!! Freakin' target almost blew my ears off! Shallow scoop, and bingo - another nice ring! I called the couple back over and had them look in the scoop. All three of us did a happy dance! Great to be back in action!

Heck of a lot of bobby pins - I don't think I've ever seen such an extensive collection before. Thanks for removing them.

Way to go Terry.... Glad you finally got to get back on the beach. I've been having a heck of a good time down here at Myrtle Beach. You can read all about it on the forum. Spent the first part of the week on VCO mode and did great but changed over to Normal Mode and really slowed down my pace to a crawl going over the same part of the beach that I have worked every day... I'm still pulling stuff out. I got another ring this morning (post pics of it tonight with the evenings finds). I think I'm at 9 rings this week.... don't quote me on that, I'll have to go count them...

I don't even want to get into how deep I dug today on a weak signal before finally getting a pair of sunglasses.... :-)

Thanks Lorraine! We were up just after the storm to clean up the beach house - which had some minor damage, but made it through. Going to Jones in the morning (in a few hours - LOL!). Maybe we can get together in a couple of weeks? I can introduce you to a couple of my kids and Grands!

Detecting friends of mine visited the area near the beach house...said there was still quite a bit of damage control in the area to contend with.
