The day started out good with the #4 hem weight, a 75 cent pocket spill and shortly after a 1912 and 1930 wheatie. But then the day started to drag... and the wheaties were coming at a rate of one per hour... way too slow when you are in the sun, son. I was nagging my Dad to switch to a new location, but he "thought" he was doing well and wanted to stay. I said that I was going to take a nap and wait for him... but instead on the way back to the car I had to try out a new spot. I walked around for a bit with detector off, assessing the land. I assessed the land, the folks hanging out, and decided on a quaint little spot all to myself. Within about 1 minute of my detector being on, I scored the 1928-s Merc at 8". I called my dad over and promptly scored another merc, a 1917 at 8" only 2 feet from the first one. My dad wanted to get into my area, and I told him to spread out... there's plenty more ground to search. Maybe 15 feet from where I got the mercs, my dad pulls his second seated dime... I've been owing my dad a "spot" for a while... so it was the least I could do. But after seeing that seated dime, I said... there has to be a seated quarter or half around here somewhere. And within 5 minutes I had an 11" 11-46 peep. It was faint, but repeatable enough to mark the spot with an X. After digging a large plug 8" deep, the coin was at the bottom of the hole under another inch or so of dirt, and it was singing good. I called my dad over to take the final recovery video... then we both lost it. Out popped my first seated coin, a 1876-cc Quarter! Yes, I was freaking out. So I joined two clubs at once... Seated Club, and Carson City Club. There was some iron fused to the back of the quarter, which wasn't helping anyone find it... luckily I had an E-Trac After a while gridding and gridding, I managed to pop out a 1903 IH at 8". I rounded off the day with 8 wheaties... '10, '12, '14, '16, '20, '30, '44, & '52. Beautiful day for detecting, and you'd just be greedy asking for more in the finds deptartment. I will definitely remember this day for a long long time.
