Well I thought I would never buy an Equinox until somebody came out with an 8" coil for it but I looked at my local craigslist yesterday and lo and behold there was an Equinox 800 up for grabs. Two months old with two hours use on it. Owner was an Etrac guy who didn't like the learning curve, he let me have it for $750 which is probably near what they will sell for once the rush is over. Have the phones and wireless module on charge, trying to read the manual which the owner had nicely printed out. Now I just have to get with the learning curve myself and hope I don't become too obNOXious. I already dislike the size of the stock coil but it will have to do. I know a 6" is available but that is smaller than I like. The light weight sure is nice compared to the Safari, but I hope this machine sniffs silver as well or better than the Explorer series.

I think you will do fine. I had the E-trac and i understand why he gave up the nox. probably depth. Still if i had a choice between the E-trac and nox i would take the nox every time. Its way faster and lighter with a short learning curve. Good luck and congrats!

good club to be in.

Congrats on the EQX. Don't sell thst 6" coil short (pun intended). I am loving the laser pointer separation (still need to better understand the net depth loss).

I know Calabash and vferrari would like 8x5 coils too, I hope you guys are pestering Minelab like I am to bring one out. Maybe, just maybe they will listen to customer input. they make an 8" for Explorer series (which almost never leaves my Safari) and Excal, hopefully they will get with the program, and soon.

Welcome to the club, and Big Silver & Gold! :hello2:

Welcome to the nox club! Don't know how you can use a detector for 2 hrs. and decide to sell:icon_scratch: Good Luck, and give it at least 3 hours!:laughing7:

Being a former Explorer user I found it pretty easy to use. Even just 30 minutes in I was making good guesses of what was probably deep iron vs a good target, but I have no doubt there's still plenty to learn tweaking settings and nuance in the sound. No frustration at all and didn't consider walking back to grab my Deus. My only complaint was the wired headphones were very annoying, but that will be solved today as my new wireless ones have arrived.

I too had, and still have a Safari, but this 800 and I will become close friends. I took the 800 to a very trashy lot that had been dozed a few days ago, a few coins, nothing worth telling about, went back yesterday with the Safari ONLY because I have a 5x8 SEF coil for it. I am convinced whenever I receive the 6" for the 800, it will be really something. I will add. when I took the Safari off the wall, my first thought was, jeez this thing is heavy. I would also like something like a 5x8 for the 800 as well, but the 6" will be I'm sure just dandy.

You will love the 800. I have the 600. Didn’t take long to learn the sounds of good targets. I’m also waiting for the 6”coil. You won’t regret the purchase if you give it a chance.

I just received my 6" coil for my 800 several days ago. only about two hours on it. I figured the engineers (or marketing dept) decided to make the first additional coil for the Equinox a 6" coil. I wonder what their reasoning. I would have thought a 5x8" would have been a killer on the 600 and 800.

You answered your own question. If they put the 6" out first many buy it and like it but think.... if only it was just a little bigger. I'd buy one a little bigger if it comes out.

Minelab really seems to prefer offering round coils over elliptical. I don't know what their reasoning is, but if enough folks keep asking for it maybe....

I have had the 600 for a few months now and just love it. Have no need for another detector. This machine loves jewelry and best of all it loves gold chains. Have found 3 small gold chains one was an ankle bracelet as well as a 14k 2mil gold chain with cross. Husband has had the 800 for a short time and is also doing very well on our hunts. jewelry coins ext. Truth be told the 1st couple of times out with his 800 he was a bit annoyed with the chatter sound numbers ext. LOL read the manual and treasure net. but was still finding all the good stuff. Yes there is a learning curve but well worth it. MAY GOLD BE IN YOUR SCOOP! HH

Congrats and good luck.

It does. It gets the smaller silver I can tell you that. It hit a half dime at 8” where my friend’s etrac couldn’t get it.

Good Luck with your new machine! :icon_thumleft:
