John Kerry tells Congress that he will not allow Benghazi survivors to testify

October 30th, 2013

(Examiner) - Sharyl Attkisson of CBS Newstweeted today that “Secy Kerry tells congress he will not honor the request to makeBenghazi survivors available for questioning.”

The stonewalling of the Obama Administration on the Benghazisurvivors is incredibly frustrating, but made worse by the complete lack of interest by the mainstream media. Kerry has faced the question of the Benghazi survivors on numerous occasions and has effectively dodged the issue at every turn.

In March, Secretary of StateJohn Kerry was asked by Fox News correspondent James Rosen why nobody has “heard from” the Benghazi survivors. Kerry stumbled through the answer, saying

TRANSCRIPT: Interview with Secretary of State Kerry | Fox News

Well, I – I mean, I can’t tell you the answer to that.

Rosen pressed John Kerry on the issue by asking, “Will we hear from them?”

Kerry responded:

I can’t tell you – I don’t know what the circumstances are of any requests to talk to them or not.

In April, Kerry was asked about the status of the Benghazi survivors again by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of the House Foreign Affairs Committee as reported byRealClearPolitics.
Kerry On Benghazi: "We Got A Lot More Important Things To Move On To" | RealClearPolitics

Rohrabacher said,

We have made request after request…just to get the list of the names of the people who were evacuated from Benghazi and we haven’t even gotten that…

John Kerry responded by saying in part,

I can promise you that if you’re not getting something that you have evidence of or you think you ought to be getting, we’ll work with you. And I will appoint somebody to work directly with you starting tomorrow, with you, Mr. Chairman, to have a review of anything you don’t think you’ve gotten that you’re supposed to get…we got a lot more important things to move on to and get done. [emphasis added]

The Examiner reached out to Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s office and spoke with former Communications Director, Tara Olivia Setmayer to inquire about Kerry’s promise.

Setmeyer replied,

There has been no update specifically to our subcommittee since Kerry appointed his senior advisor to be the liaison. I can’t speak for other committees.

The answer was frustrating, to say the least.

Just last week, John Kerry again diminished Benghazi during the House Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing to discuss whether America should intervene in Syria with military strikes. Rep. Jeff Duncan said that Benghazi, as well as other recent scandals plaguing the White House,

call into question the accountability of this administration, its commitment to the personnel on the ground, and the judgment that it uses when making these determinations.

Matthew Boyle of Breitbart reported that Kerry replied in part,

We’re talking about people being killed by gas and you want to go talk about Benghazi and Fast and Furious.

Stunning quotes from other officials regarding the Benghazi survivors can be found at Tavern Keepers. The only clear thing about the survivors of the Benghazi terror attack is that government officials have been offering mixed messages about their whereabouts.

The survivors of the attack are not the only witnesses who have been held back from testifying. In July, the Examiner spoke with Dan Lamothe of the Marine Corps Times, who reported that the Pentagon admitted that an “administrative error” mistakenly classified Marine Col. George Bristol as “retired” and therefore unavailable to testify about his knowledge of the events surrounding the Benghazi terror attack in Libya last year.

Lamonthe exposed the story, Despite Pentagon claims, Marine colonel sought in Benghazi investigation not yet retired | Marine Corps Times | marinecorpstimes.com which went mostly unreported in the mainstream media. It was his reporting that led to Bristol to testify in a closed door hearing. The results of that testimony are not easy to find, but UPI reported that Col. George Bristol “gave troops in Libya permission to respond” in Benghazi, despite it being widely reported that he gave a “stand down” order.

Again, the mainstream media was generally uninterested.

Lamonthe said,

“I think this stands as a good example of what a free press can do. The Pentagon said Col. Bristol was retired, but either didn’t bother to check whether he was fully retired or didn’t want to acknowledge he was still not a civilian. A simple records check with cooperative Marine officials showed he was not scheduled to hit the inactive service list until Aug. 1.”

Sharyl Attkisson’s shocking tweet should result in an immediate select committee on Benghazi, something that Twitter users have been demanding on a daily basis. H.Res. 36, sponsored by Rep. Frank Wolf, calls for a select committee “to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya.” https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hres36

Didn't some member here say that there was no such problem today? That everyone that could have testified had already done so, or some such banter? What am I to think now Red? What?

Like I've said many times - (IMHO) all those that voted for Obama must be so darn proud. Just imagine having American Citizen's like Senator Harry Mason Reid and Representative Nancy Patricia D'Alesandro Pelosi on your side. Such a shame..

Correct it was said in a reply to my post on wanting testimony from the survivors who were actually there at time of attack. Was told by buckaroo that everyone had already testified on it which we all know is NOT true.

Treasure Hunter:

Nope. I did not write that.

You wrote there needed to be a Congressional investigation. I wrote that I'd read there had been been 12 and 24 of them (depends on how one counts "investigations," inquiries, etc.).

You wrote about Sec. Clinton's testimony - so you knew there has to have been at least one investigation. Otherwise, what was she testifying at?

Chair Issa has done his level best to gin up a coverup. Since there wasn't one, he has his work cut out for him.

Good luck to all,

Treasure Hunter:

Although I don't see the relationship between the two, I will point out I've lost count of the number of Congressional investigations, inquiries, etc. into Benghazi. I've seen figures between 12 and 24.

I don't believe the compound attacked in Benghazi was an Embassy. That's in Tripoli. I believe the Benghazi property was a CIA or other governmental entity safehouse.

Several times the Bush Administration claimed Gitmo wasn't US soil and therefore our laws didn't apply there. I have always found that to be a remarkable dangerous position to take.

Back to Benghazi - People have been held accountable. There was no coverup.

Good luck to all,

2.0: If the United States had actively supported the League of Nations following The Great War, instead of pulling into our borders and becoming isolationist, could it have prevented WW II? Obviously no one can say it would have. But could it? Was Woodrow Wilson correct?

Treasure Hunter:

So your complaint isn't the lack of investigations - if Sec. Clinton testified somebody was looking into this. I don't agree that she lied.

Ambassador Stephens was offered additional security and turned it down. I'm sure you already knew that.

I've read Internets rumors about those on the scene being hidden. I've seen no real evidence so far.

Have you read Under Fire by Burton & Katz? Or the magazine except from it?

Good luck to all,

How can there be an investigation when not a single person who was on site at time of attack has been question?

Kerry now says he refuses to make any witnesses available for Congress to question.

Can you imagine an investigation where police are told by a lawyer police can not question any of 30 some odd witnesses who were in a room at the time of 4 people being killed.

More importantly, can you imagine the uproar if Reagan had pulled that during Iran-Contra or Nixon during Watergate, or even Slick Willie during whitewater?

I guess if Booky doesn't agree it didn't happen? That looks like the defense when he doesn't like the evidence so far.

Wonder how much kapo trolls get paid:laughing7:

how can anyone regardless of political affiliation ,defend any thing benghazi, tragedy all the way, hilary and the o should be charged ,if nothing else criminal negligence ,they are not comppitent enough to hold office and should be removed.

Like I have said before. No matter what, the Lib's will stay course because ideology is more important than the truth. If a conservative lies - we call them on it. If a Lib lies, the rest of them circle the wagons and protect. What a sad way to go through life.

Remember, Booky has proven repeatedly that he has zero credibility. He's so far up Obama's britches leg that he cannot see reality.
