So I found this her carpenters hatchhh..... Wait the back is riveted on and there's no place for a handle. That's a new one on me.

Then later at another spot I found this tiny horse(?)shoe.

Here it is next to an actual carpenters hatchet I dug a while back. This one has never had a handle hole.

My guess would be a special purpose chisel made from a broke hatchet.

Little shoe looks like a mule shoe. Probably old

Definitely a mule shoe. As for the axe, either the one side to the slot my have rusted away, or it was never finished.

I'll post some more pics after I take it out of the electrolysis bath.

Is the narrow end hollow?
How about an ice scraper/garden edger with a long handle in line with the blade?
Looks like the knob on the narrow end was clamped or mechanically fastened onto the blade as opposed to forged.

Ok I let it soak in my electrified tub over night and now I think the handle was riveted on.
It was at the same location where I found the 1906 Burnt Big Beautiful Barber Half Dollar.
