I am getting back into the swing of things and picked up a bulk bag of jewelry today. Wasn't too bad for a $17 bag

32 grams of 1/20 12k gold filled. A couple of small sterling charms. 3 14k gold earrings. (8 grams)

And then 2 kinda mystery pieces.

1st is this glass heart. 14k (750). And looks like it is marked 566 Roma. Not sure if it is a designer type of piece or just pop the gold off for scrap

Second is this little charm. I am out of acid to test it. But thinking sterling. (Would love it to be platinum lol)

2 seperate hallmarks on the back. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance!!

The mount on that heart should be 18K (.750%).. Italy is maybe where's it's from. The other item has true hallmarks from some country?

It is 18k. I had some guys in another thread take a look. And they agreed on it being fire opal

Well that solves that I'm thinking? It's a fire opal. Pretty neat and I'd keep it complete

I think those are fake marks on the second piece. The one on the left represents a duty mark (letter O), the one in the center may be the Queen, on the right looks like Pinocchio.

Well it looks like you did well for $17! Bet that thrift store hasn't seen the last of you.

Let me clean it up and get a better pic

Over the last few years I have pulled over 6 ounces of gold and 5 lbs of sterling from the jewelry bags there

hi,

nice scoop for $17.

i am sure the first one is amber and not fire opal (similar: Vintage 18K Gold Amber Heart Pendant Jewelry w Thick Silk Rope Necklace | eBay). as already noted the marks mean 18K gold made in rome.

the second one has irish hallmarks for sterling silver. they are a bit worn and tarnished, but i believe these are dublin marks for 1980 (see: Dublin Date Letters). i can't make out the maker's mark, which is the clover-like mark (it probably has an initial in each of the 3 leaves). the symbol is a very old symbol called a claddagh and it symbolizes loyalty, love, and friendship. it is an extremely popular design on rings as well as other jewelry such as your pendant.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Those are definitely Dublin hallmarks on the pendant, but not for 1980. Below I have shown the mark the right way up, and you can see from the style and slope of the ‘O’ that it’s the date letter for 2000.

Note that all hallmark offices had an additional ‘millenium’ symbol available to them that year, but it’s use was optional and it isn’t on the pendant. The maker mark is ‘SAC in a trefoil’, which is for Hammond, Creake & Co. (trading as Saint Arnaud Creake), in business from the end of the 19th Century to the end of the 20th Century.

It’s a stylized variation of the traditional Irish ‘Claddagh’ (Chladaigh) ring with a heart representing love and a crown above representing loyalty. In the traditional form, it’s held between two clasped hands, symbolizing friendship.

The other pendant is 750 (18 Karat) hallmarked with a ROMA (Rome, Italy) registration number 588, but I don’t know who that is. I only have maker registration listings for Rome that go up to number 157 in 1971, so for sure that will also be a quite modern piece.
