I was helping a friend clean out a house because he was moving and stumbled across this box with a painting under the lid. He said I could have it if I wanted it. I was wondering if anyone can help me find out anything about the artist, and maybe even the monogram on the box. The painting itself shows quite a bit of detail, and the box has a monogram on it. The artist appears to be P (or) F Bimberg, and is dated 1916. The box is about 14" x 4 1/2" x 9", and could be older than the painting inside of it, but, to be honest I'm more interested in the painting. The painting looks a bit like Lake George or Maine/ New England. Any help is very appreciated....Thanks M.

Re: Jewelery Box?

I added the last close-up of the signature at the bottom photo.

It may indeed be a humidor, or it may also be a jewelry box, but the painting under the lid holds the most interest for me, and also the monogram on the cover. I must also say that the box appears to be a bit large for a humidor, and would a lock be customary?
As for the painting, it holds a lot of detail, shadow, and the composition is such that it was obviously painted by someone who knows how to paint a picture. The scale of the painting contains considerable detail.
