I found a new farm/home site on Historic Aerials that was demolished sometime after 1979. It shows on the earliest aerial picture in 1931 so I figured there's a good chance it goes back into the 1800's. I swung over a small pile 8x10 feet that looked like it had been pushed during demo. These piles are usually full of pebble, gravel, and small metal junk but I dug out the 3 coins! They were not deep since they had been pushed with the pile. The Nova Caesarea and the draped bust were easy to ID but the 3rd coin is complete toast both sides as is usually the case for NJ soil and coppers. The NJ coppers were only minted in 1786 and '87. I don't know if all states at the time were minting their own but I've seen Connecticut coppers here on TNet. Also found the 3 fired rounds, 2 hole button, spoon, umbrella/parasol piece, wheat, and a decorative metal piece. HH

Great hunt. Looks like a hot spot. Congrats!

Very nice thanks for sharing

Nice finds good job Don in South Jersey may be able to ID the jersey for you

Probably enough meat to ID it. All were dated 1786 to 1788 but there are many different varieties.

The NJ is a 1787 Maris 43-d, by far the most common NJ variety found, over 100+ of this variety in the NJ Study. I do not believe this is in the survey which is studying the distribution by State and County of NJ coppers and varieties so in order to add it to the survey either say here or PM me the State and County found in. Thanks

Nice finds right there, great work!!

This weekend the temps here kept the ground nice and solid but I was able to dig too. I'm right across the Delaware from you in Northampton County PA. Keep posting!

Thank you Don for the insight. It was found in Monmouth County NJ.

Thanks for the input , Monmouth is one of the higher reporting counties, abt 47+ so far from that county in the survey. Burlington by far the most...

great finds, thanks for posting

Great finds and great research leading up to them!
