Yes I do this on the side. I have a great job for the county

breakage is dirty cast alum. Lawnmower motors that have not been stripped apart.

That's awesome!!
Wish I was smart enough to think up something to bring in extra income.

Years ago, we used to glean the burn pile at the boat basin. They'd burn old boats. We'd get brass ,copper and other stuff. I used to sit on my butt, with a screen and pull out all the brass I could. we got by that way during the off season. I did this at 8 months pregnant, I was huge, lol.

Awesome... as usual.
How long have you been at it ?
How long did it take to learn the terminology? (breakage etc.) and from who did you learn it?
How many times do you think you got burned before you learned the ropes?

Hoffmeister, keep the good hauls coming!

I have been scrapping for about 10-15 years
I learned the terminology from the scrapyard.
I got burned 1 time and 1 time only, that was about 6 months into scrapping. I got a little careless and screwed myself. The very first time I went to the scrapyard I went in with a chip on my shoulder and told them what I expect to be paid and I will not take any less. I have developed a great reputation with the scrapyard I go to, They know I mean business.

Thanks, and keep the hauls coming as an inspiration to the rest of us.

How do you haul, store, etc?

You are definitely a haul of Famer!

I have 2 pickup trucks and 3 trailers I haul with. I am renting a barn off of a local farmer for dirt cheap. I leave all the big stuff there and bring the stuff that needs stripped to my house and do it in my garage. I keep most of my non ferrous stuff in my garage and the other stuff sits in the barn. If you were to drive down my street you would never be able to tell which house is mine from the curb

Prices took a huge jump this morning $255 a ton for shred. I took in 2100 # and made $273. My big furnace job is due to start the end of the week  Hoping the prices stay up for a while

looks like you got your week cut out for ya. I pulled 9 aluminum windows out of a house and have to get the glass and screws out before they go to the yard.'
Hopefully extrusion will be up to about 75 cents.

Being tired after doing all that must be a good feeling.

Hey, just a thought. Do I see the possibility of a tv series. " Full Metal Refund ",
"Flip this scrap " ( double entendre )

Keep us updated.
