Since yesterday's hunt was a bust, I decided to head out after work this afternoon. First stop was the coin shop where I finally picked up a "Redbook" (I'll be ok now Nick ) and found a beautiful "Stone Mountain" memorial coin from 1925 in "AU-50" condition. I'll be trading up with the owner for it on Monday.

Stuck around to "shoot the breeze" for a bit and then it was off to the park I hit the other day. Apparently, there is actually someone else in my town that MD's! I noticed their filled holes (thank you) and picked up a '44 Jefferson nickel about two inches down and six inches over from where they dug (thanks again). I walked almost the same "path" they did and I literally lifted two of their plugs and bagged three Memorial cents (thanks 3x)! I keep moving - another Memorial (no thanks needed for this one) and about a foot from the creek the "Hunter of Bounty" sounded as if it were "growling". Strong signal in the iron range but I dug anyway (heck, I was having fun). I swear I dug about 8 or 9 inches and came up with this giant "whatsit". I have no idea what it is so obviously I'll post it in the "What's It" forum. Filled my hole and headed toward the swings - about three feet away I got a strong mid-tone in the penny-dime range but deep - showed 8 inches. Still learning, I dug away - not seeing anything but still getting a strong tone, I dug a little more, used the pinpointer - moved some dirt - oh my gosh! My heart started to race a bit when I saw a large, dark brown, coin shaped object at the bottom! I dang near jumped into the hole to grab it and carefully wiped it off to find...
...a 1957 "Cincuenta Centavos"! A Mexican fifty cent piece. Thought I had my first large cent or something. Not too bummed out - it's a beautiful coin and in remarkably good shape considering how deep it was (anyone know what these are made out of?). Continuing on, I worked my way towards the slide and picked up (dug) a newer style pulltab (my first, YAY) and about a foot from that I dug an old style pull tab (another first, WHOOPEE!). Eyeballed a magenta paperclip (I'm sure my daughter will love that) and a very thin very cheap (tin?) novelty necklace. Walking back towards my vehicle - got a solid nickel reading and unbelievably - it was a nickel! A "Buffalo" nickel no doubt (yet, another first)! Completely unreadable as far as the date goes - a beautiful coin but a terrible design. Quite a productive day even though I dug a lot of trash. It was pretty exciting just to get so many signals. Anyway, my apologies for thy long-windedness AGAIN. As always - pics are the reward for enduring this wonderfully horrible piece of journalism. Thanks y'all.....
