Jarosite with hematite quartz?

I found this where I'm finding the chrysocolla, I looked online and I googled images of every mineral that they listed in the area, first three images are jarosite with hematite quartz from mindat and the last three images are from my specimen, it's a little dinged up from shoving it in my backpack with other rocks but what do you all think, jarosite?

I'm not a rock person, but they look the same to me..:occasion14:

I honestly don't know that's why I wanted your guy's opinion, it's not listed on mindat in the area, the reason I'm leaning jarosite is because of a specimen I destroyed by putting it in super iron out, it was quartz with hematite or iron but the top of the specimen was bright yellow, like canary yellow and looked like a lot of other jarosite specimens I've seen on mindat, it was cool looking and I'm still kicking myself for sticking it in super iron out, I'm just so used to cleaning quartz specimens. Hopefully when it starts cooling off I can find another one like the one I destroyed, thanks for replying Dizzy and Sailaway.

Here's another ore specimen I grabbed from out there, anyone have an idea what it is?

Steve, your rocks are so exotic they are impossible for me to identify. You find a wide variety of neat rocks, that's for sure. Gary

Thanks Gary, I don't know if anyone else has this same problem but every time I go out I tell myself just grab a few specimens but by the time I get back to my truck, my backpack is full with the straps about to snap and a few days worth of back recovery lol but yet I love doing it, I see a cool rock I have to grab it, even if it's just for yard decorations, the one above I also kind of ruined, the topside was bright red/yellow colors but super iron out turned it a dull brown, painful learning...I'm still thinking maybe slab that one, I think it would make pretty cool collector slabs.

I remembered I broke some some of the crumbly rock right below where I seen the pyramid shape stacked stones, I didn't notice anything to the naked I but under a loupe it looks like it has tiny gold or is that pyrite, embarrassing I can't seem to tell the difference when it's that little but what do you all think, worth pursuing?

This is the stuff that drives me crazy, I can't locate the veins, I've been out there twice right after big storms and I find pieces but I can't locate the source, I thought I'd share and if anyone knows any tips to locating the source I'm all ears...20200804_085055.jpg20200804_085956.jpg20200804_084403.jpg20200804_084321.jpg20200804_084447.jpg20200804_084716.jpg20200804_084804.jpg20200804_084947.jpg

Not an easy task, there is really no shortcut other than perhaps using Google Earth. Problem is, those samples could have traveled many miles from the source.
Give Google Earth a try, you may get a better idea of the potential source from scouting the larger area from above keeping in mind everything flows downhill.

Other than that, a local USGS mineral report may shed some light on narrowing down a potential search area.
Still will come down to boots on the ground, many good finds occur by accident while exploring.

Also you may want to use land Matters (free) to insure that you are not prospecting on someones mineral claim. There is a wealth of info including topo, land status, and Geology all kept up to date.

Hi Goodguy, yeah I've been out there twice after big storms and I've only found several pieces of that chrysocolla in quartz with tiny gold, good news is it's a mountain runoff tributary so maybe a quarter mile of search area tops, something has been kind of stuck in my mind, where I found the that last piece I posted on this thread if you look and see that dark reddish brown seam, if you look with a loupe it has a lot of tiny gold in it as well, I remember seeing that on the bedrock on the other side of the tributary, I didn't see any blue so I didn't examine it closely, its weird, one side of the tributary has hardly no plant life and it solid rock with the stuff in my hands above, the other side is where I picked up the chrysocolla in quartz and it has some plant life and a lot of loose rock/soil so I'm wondering if I follow that seam to the other side of the tributary and dig there, maybe that's where the chrysocolla vien is, I think I'll start there for sure. I've already checked with the hassayampa field office, it was a lode claim back in the early 2000's, it was forfeited by a small miner from back east, I don't see any working though, maybe a little but no big operation took place for sure, though the price of gold was around 400$ an ounce back then and now it's close to 2000$ an ounce so there's probably hundreds of old small lode claims forfeited back when gold prices weren't worth the effort but now at 2000$ an ounce would be worth it, to be honest it would be awesome to find a gold mine but I'd be blessed just to find that vien for lapidary use.
Thanks for the reply and information Goodguy:icon_thumright:

I broke open this big chunk of either geothite limonite or hematite and I didn't expect that inside, pretty cool, I thought I'd share with my Rockers...20200807_090003.jpg20200807_090010(0).jpg
