Anyone ever seen one of these. I'm not sure how old it is, how much it could be worth, or if it is junk. There is a mark on the bottom that has two lines slanted towards each other (kind of like the two outside lines of a "W" with a "V" inside of it, not connected to the other two lines. The third picture is of the mark but its hard to see. I tried sharpening the shadow with Microsoft Photo editor. It doesn't have any color at all. It is the same color as the jar. The diameter of the opening is about twice the size of an Eisenhower dollar and it is a little bit taller than the diameter.

Should I be throwing it in the trash or should I be putting it on ebay?

Well, I don't think it's a high-dollar item, but I still wouldn't throw it away. Heck, if nothing else, you could stash a few other finds in it.

As for eBay... who knows what anything might bring on there! :D (Remember the infamous "Ghost in a Jar" and "Bottle of Dreams"?)

But I wouldn't know what to call the dang thing. Will that mark ID so I at least know what to call it?

You could call it a milk glass jar with lid, but it's a nice item. I would hold on to it. It probabaly won't go for much on ebay

Do you want it? I'm really interested in the coins. Everything else I will sell, put in a shadowbox coffee table or throw away.

It reminds me of prescription salve jars that my Mom had back in the late 60's (I remember her putting stuff on her ecsema (sp on that one) on her hands.

Because it's not very big, I'm thinking it's not a cold cream jar.... but then the lid is rather decorative for being a prescription jar.

Found it in a creek bed behind an old tavern. We were hoping to find some old musket balls or military buttons...I read an internet article that this old tavern is where the local militia used to meet (and camp), circa 1820, but alas, everything we dug was recent, although it was clean detecting. Spent about 2 hours there with only 6-7 targets and dug them all. Found a broken tin cup (can't tell if it's old or not there are no markings on it and the handle is broken off) and this jar. Everything else was foil and scrap iron/steel. My buddy found a broken cap gun...It says "Cowboy Jr" on the side. The area we were detecting is a big flat area near the creek and floods often. We figure that about 3 feet probably has to be stripped off from the top before we could get any of the old stuff...or a major flood. So we left it for the flood. Still nobody on those markings on the jar? I looked at it again...the picture of the marking is kind of upside down. The "V" is an "A" and the markings around it form an upside down "U" shape.

I don't want it. Got enough of them. You might want to give it to someone that is just starting out collecting bottles.

Just found out what this jar is....
Anchor Hocking is the makers mark on the bottom. Cold Cream Jar. It's worth about 3 bucks. It was made circa 1930. Still pretty cool I say. When I first pulled it out of the ground I had hoped it would have a stack of mercs or barbers in it. phooey. just dirty water.
