I'm sure this is a jar lid. The white part on the inside is glass and I haven't seen one like this before. Is there anyone out there that knows the approximate age? When were they using glass inside the lid?

I believe the earliest a white ceramic lid could be in the 1870's, since I believe Boyd got the patent in that time frame, I am not sure how long they were used with the zinc type lids. The site I am presently hitting has produced about 7 of them so far and I always associated the Mason lids with more like late 1800's to possibly early 1900's.

Come to Virginia, Felinepeachy and you can dig those all day out of my yard. Seems like they did alot of canning here at one time.

Peachy, I noticed the white ceramic has no mark on it, I found one yesterday that has a mark and the name Boyd's, so now I am thinking it might be possible to narrow down their dates by perhaps marks or lack of marks on the white ceramic insert.

I think I have the piece in my fishing vest, will go out later and retrieve it and take a photo to post.
