Japanese Paper 500 Yen

I have a Nippon Ginko 500 Yen note. I was told they don't make these any more. Is it worth anything? Or worth hanging on to?
If there any history behind it?

Yes, this design is out of print.

As to value, if it is nice and crispy, hang on to it. Keep in mind, though, that this situation is no different than the old design currency still in use in the US -- there may be a slight premium over face, which will likely increase little by little over time.
