I picked this up at a thrift store. Since I was in the US Army and I was stationed in Japan this really caught my attention. Obvliously it is fairly recent, post WWII but I don't know anything about it. Were many bowls made to protest the US Army in Japan? Does anyone know what the symbols above Yufuin mean? Is this a particular type of pottery?

Thank you all for your input!

I tried to find anything on your bowl, nada!
It must be a one only hand made. But you would think there would be at least one reference?
No idea on the symbol, but many on here should be able to help.

I don't know anything about that bowl, but for $4.99 you got a good deal. It is really interesting. Somebody did not like the idea of the good guys! (Former Army myself):icon_thumleft:

Yufuin is a city in Japan. You might want to search Yufuin to see their role in WWII. Neat find, Breezie

The symbols at the top are not hiragana, katakana, or kanji that I can recognize.

As Breezie said, Yufuin is a city in Japan. It has a popular hot spring resort (onsen) in it. There is a place there where tourists can make their own pottery. That may be what you have...
