I dug up this coin but I can't figure out how to read the date. Any help would be great.

It’s an aluminium-bronze 10 sen coin, minted between 1938-1940.

The inscription at the bottom 年 四 十 和 昭 gives you the date as “Year 14 of [Emperor] Shōwa”. Shōwa (Hirohito) took office on 25th December 1926 so that would be 1939 although some sources say 1940 (maybe because he took power late in the year).
