Being able to hunt at all in January in PA is a bonus for us. Being able to hunt in 60 degree weather and find a few keepers is all just icing on the cake.
Met up with Jeff of PA this morning and headed to a restaurant for breakfast, a restaurant neither of us had ever been in. Turned out to be great food with slow service, but we did get there when the place was packed. Anyway, we finally got to the hunt site just before noon and the finds were a little slow to say the least. After about 2 and a half hours all I had in the bag was an old spoon and clad.....then the tide turned....the first keeper of the day was the 1944 D Merc followed by the 1943 S war nickel. After a few dead minutes the Etrac screamed 1-46 from all directions and sounded like silver....YES!! I cut the plug a little wide to be safe and when I flipped it I was greeted with a great site....my first Barber half!!
A 1908 D.....not in great shape but I'm very happy to own it!!
The spoon is marked R&B on the back. A quick search showed that to be the Reed and Barton silverware company, I looked for the pattern but had no luck so I don't have a clue on the age of the spoon. Looks like it was an old design though.
Here's the pics:
Group photo including the $1.87 in clad and one 1946 wheat:
And the goodies:
I hope this doesn't turn out to be my only post before spring...LOL!!
