Went to my old standby park, my backyard and the common area of our housing development and really didn't find anything outstanding.? A total of $.81 in clad and these items.? One key, a lapel pin that says 'De Colores', which I believe is a religious item, a house or car key, a copper elbow and 2 whatizits.? The second picture I think might be some sort of hinge...looks kind of like one to me, but not sure...any ideas?

i have found some of those whats before...I'm kinda twisted from beer right now but i would say some instrument.. maybe a piano.. ahy help? :D

I soaked the myster item in lemon juice overnight and to my surprise some writing is now visibile. There is a circle on the item and in the middle of the circle are 'K-W'. Above the K is the word 'Trade' and below the W is the word 'Mark'. The lettering of the K-W is very western and the whole thing almost looks like a cowboy brand. Obviously it's a trademark, but I'm not sure how to look those up. I'll google it later and see what I come up with. above the circle is some additinal writing. I can barely make it out..'PR71..' Below the circlie I can barely make out that it says 'Made in the USA'.

Also I soaked the key in lemon juice and it reads 'National Cabinet Lock'. Underneath that is reads 'Made in U.S.A.' On the other side it has the following numbering '4040PO'. I'll google 'National Cabinet Lock' also and see if there is anyway that I can date it, just for kicks.

Any ideas on how to look up trademarks?

Skane, I got it. KW made ignition coils for model T's. I believe the unknown "nub" item may be part of the same unit. Heres a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MODE...34205QQitemZ4604066865QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Holy cow!.. How did you figure that out. I couldn't find anything...I went to trademark site and it's very confusing and wasn't able to find anything....How did you figure this out. It looks exactly like the top of the ignition coils pictured. Thank you so much...

Hey great finds...... Maybe a new category should be started on "How to use the net for finding information" I also battle. We could learn from you Old Hands ::)

God bless,
Peter

After the initial jump the nhbenz gave me, I researched it further. It is a piece of an ignition coil pointset from a model T. circa 1909-1927 made by the K-W ignition company.

Right on Skane, I thought it looked like an old burned out contact point. I work on a lot of old cars and cycles that still have points. But that one is REALLY old! A nice interesting find... I wonder what other parts they left out there! :) -Ben

Congrats on a really cool find Skane! A Model T Ford part, incredible!! Great work on the research too NHBenz!!

Nice finds!! I knew that that thing was a car part, just not where it went, I have one that just says ford on it.
