When I was about 10 years old we rescued this from a newspaper bundle in folders that were about to be thrown away in an estate sale. It has always captured my eye as I have always been a real big history buff (this was right around the time I first learned about Pearl Harbor). 19 years later, I still have it but never really knew much about it. I understand the individual who commissioned the original painting, James M. Sessions, was a well-known maritime artist around the time period. He did scenes of boats/landscapes, and also a few battle scenes during the Second World War. While I know this is a newspaper page, I have never found a picture of the original painting and the subject matter is excellent, being only a month after Japan attacked the US. It just hangs in my office, and I am just trying to find out more about it (value might be a little harder because I have not been able to find anything to compare it to). I figure any individuals who have experience in art, newspaper collecting, or WW2 might be able to chime in here. Thank you!
