Did a little hunt yesterday at an old 1860's site in Cali. and my partner found this stamped sheet brass thing.
We're hoping that someone will know what it is.
Looks like it was about 4 or 5 inches across.
Unfortunately for me and you that are trying to help, he has the piece and I can't try to pull any more letters.
The letters across the top are "TURY". maybe century?
and the letters above the profile are "* TO JACOB VAN BORN**"
There are a few more letters but with out the piece in hand hard to tell...

Hopefully one of you ID gurus out there has seen one of these and can help.
Thanks for the look and any help.

Neat find! Maybe a decorative seal off a Jacob Van Horn whiskey bottle/barrel...? I found this newspaper ad from The Mariposa Gazette 1/1/1861 in the California Digital Newspaper Collection.
