Found my second J-hook this weekend. Both came from the same site. I noticed that one goes left and the other goes right. Maybe this is a dumb question but why are they different? IMG_20160820_123651901.jpg

Relic_nut, is that a buckshot or a melted lead cartridge box finial?
I assumed it is a bad poor of a buckshot because of how small the neck is, but it could also be a finial. I hadn't looked at it that way. Thanks for pointing that out.

IMO Hard to tell With Out seeing it in person, a great bunch of finds , GS button look's Great & Those BiG 69's ...Well I'd love to dig some.

Again nice Finds.
Also found my 2 or 3 rd J hook but the first in over 10 years. a little over a week ago. Pic's Tonite I Hope.'Crossed Fingers'.

I would say they had not been trimmed. When you shot buck and ball from what I have seen is it did not matter if they were trimmed perfect. Ball yes cause it might stick but not on the bucks. It was a nasty round for sure.
Google howdah hunter used in India to shoot tigers...... and this was way worse.

I agree that was a nasty load. When you hold this ammo in your hand it makes you think. All of it is nasty, I can't image carrying 40 rounds of the 69 cal, much less being hit by it.

I hear ya.

Heck back then the avg, Short 5-7 140 pound man , had MUCH More Strength & Endurance then "Most" Men Today.
Ill also bet The slaves Back then Could Stomp some Serious Arse.

I often think that these kids and men who went to war saw it as an adventure of a life time. Many had probably not ever been out of their home towns. Imagine marching across the United States and camping out every night all year long. It was brutal and am sure that the glory faded fast.
