My grandpa acquired this item from his aunt and uncle and we believe it was made by the J Geddy foundry. The Geddys were silversmiths and jewelers in colonial Williamsburg. In the picture you?ll see ?I.G? which I was switched to J somewhere along the line. The only thing we?re confused about is what it is. We were thinking stamp at first but not too sure. If anyone has any knowledge on the family or the item it would be appreciated. 850FCB2E-B64B-4E45-A118-72D1652F9F41.webp553381FB-9EFB-41C7-8660-4A9F3C2788DC.webp

Pipe tamper maybe?
Looks heavy to be a fob.

Well into the 19th century, the letters I and J were often indistinguishable - especially when hand written. So "J" was typically represented as 'I'.

Here is an 18th Century guide for learning "round hand". Note the omission of the letter 'J'.
