Hello everyone,

I inherited this "statue-like" small table/pedastal...from my grandfather.

I have been in possession of it for about 20years, i have no intentions on selling it whether its worth $1.00 or $100.00

I was hoping anyone could give me some insight on what it is and where its from....if its rare and worth anything at all.

It is in beautiful shape~! I dont know if its just solid plastic or what.

This thing is VERY HEAVY.

It is about 3ft tall and 10inches across the top plate.

Thanks in advance
-Rudy :-)

Hi there - is it perhaps ceramic ? - like pottery, it has that look about it to me. It's a cool piece and I agree with you on keeping it - you ain't going to find another one like it anytime soon. Nuggy

Hello,

Thanks for the replies so far. We do not believe it is ceramic due to the feel of it and the weight is incredible on this item.

My father believes it to be ivory because of the weight and it being completely solid.

Also his theory is since Ivory is from elephant...that is why it has the elephants down the side with the women for a design...

I cant even lift it with one hand safely.

thanks for the replies so far :-)

a hot pin on the bottom would melt plastic and make ivory smell but wouldn't penetrate

Alan is correct :icon_thumright: Ivory is just like our fingernails, its made of a keratin material. once you put the hot needle or pin to it, if its Ivory it WILL smell like burning hair!

Thanks for the tip s guys...

I just did the hot pin test and it failed.....the pin went into the bottom....so it must be some kind of plastic resin.

I still have no idea where its from or what it is...lol

There are (and have been) extremely strict federal regulation against the importing of ivory; therefore, the value of an authentic ivory statue is outrageously priced. A small, simple 1 inch ivory statue can fetch over $100.00 and one 10 inches or more is over $1000.00. Since the value of these statues are so rich, there are a plethora of fakes and imitations, especially from the Orient. I'm not saying yours is a fake, but if it were real ivory, you could quit your day job.

I would think your statue is made from resin or ivorine, ivorette, or the likes. Ivorine (synthetic ivory) was sold back to the early part of the 1910-20s. Some of these statues were even coated with ivory dust to make them look more authentic.

You have a beautiful statue stand and even it were made from cardboard, I know you will cherish it because it belonged to your Grandfather. Breezie

36 inches is a pretty good stretch for a straight piece of ivory--not impossible but very long with no curvature. Then, dittos to what Breezie says.

Don't see any hairline cracks- not ivory.
