I've no idea what this is!?

I found it in an 1880's school yard. It measures about 1 1/2" long. The bottom portion is brass with a square hole in the bottom of it and a small round hole in the side. The top portion looks to be soldered on and made of lead.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Dave

the bottom reminds me of a porcelain faucet handle --square shaft with set screw- never did bust one up to see what the held the porcelain on-

It's the back part to an old glass doorknob. The glass is broken off. The square hole is where the shaft went into it, and the round hole is where the set screw went to hold it onto the shaft.

I can see how that could work cheese. :icon_thumright: I've got a couple of glass door knobs in my house and none of them look like this though? :icon_scratch:

It could also be out of a porcelain knob, I don't know which it was, but that's what it is. I have several I can show, some with the knobs still on... gotta dig them up though. I think I know where they are.

duh! a door knob, of course- all through my 1860© 'four square'--I'll bet the two holes are rather rounded, as mine all are---
