During the summer I was detecting the Delaware River PA side when I came upon this piece of drift wood. I think it's from a fence post, has a lot of old spikes nailed into it! I was thinking of mounting it on the wall to hang coats on! image-386759400.jpg image-1850244791.jpg image-2230442946.jpg Can anyone date it from the spikes?

That doesn't look like it is from a fence it actually looks as though it might have been off of a wagon or some old farm equipment not sure of age although your idea of a hat or coat rack is very cool.

Love your idea. Cut square nails go back to before 1900, and were a dominate nail in the 1800's. They are still made today, but are specialty nails now days, and yours aren't modern. I'd guess they would date to the late 1800's. Here's a good site to go to for more information. The Humble Nail - A Key to Unlock the Past - The Harp Gallery

Sorry, I should have included dimensions!
The wood is. 3' 6" long and is 4" x 5" rectangle
The largest Spikes or nails are 1/2" square and up to 7 " long! get smaller from there.
Maybe from a Boat?
