I've Got the Key...

So I got back out to the playground again next to my friend's house. I found a modern quarter, penny, and a key that I'm assuming belongs to one of the teachers to the school before I even got out of the parking lot. I ended up only finding what one guy on the forums called "canslaw", twice, then a '79 quarter that was red in color and had a good amount of green crud layered on it. I tried cleaning it and only got a little off, so oh well. I also had a solid hit in one spot, but after getting down to about 6 or 7 inches, I gave up. I really need to get a pinpointer because I felt like I was digging up more than I should have had to. Plus, I didn't want to leave a horrible hole for any little kid to trip over, or any adult to see and think bad about detecting. So I just covered it up. Maybe I'll come back to it another time whenever I'm able to get a pinpointer. *shrugs*

A pinpointer makes life so much easier. It is well worth the cost.

Pinpointers are the only way to go! I forgot mine yesterday and thought I was lost! They are a big help and a huge time saver.

I agree with the pin pointer,but also bring a rag or piece of plastic to put you dirt on when you dig. This way you can get it all back in the hole. Best way to keep from leaving an unsightly depression in the grass, especially when you have to dig a larger than normal hole. ( Happens to all of us)

I hear ya' on the rag thing... I've been meaning to get a bandanna from Wal-mart or something, but I keep forgetting. I've been managing pretty well in getting most all of the dirt back into the hole. But I'll get one eventually when I remember. Thanks for the advice though!
