I don't think any coin was plated back then

I have one that is almost cut in half, it is solid throughout and not plated.

not the Government issued ones from the old days but there are new reproductions going around. All are different size than a standard nickel. There was the Liberty Racketeer nickel which was made without the "cents" on the back, that was plated and passed as a $5. gold piece illegally cause it had a V on the back which confused many. Or maybe it was someones birthday coin? I have seen pennies plated with silver......?
