Minelab Equinox 800 - White's DFX
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I was into MD years ago. At the time I had a White's DFX and a lot of frustration. Fast forward 15 years or so and I'm getting back into MD. I've got an Equinox 800, Predator digging tools, and even a very interesting place to detect.

I'm in the St. Louis, MO area and there's a relatively new park of 300+ acres that has been closed to the public for over 25 years. Long ago there was a large estate on the property. The city that now owns the park does not allow detecting or digging, but just today I got permission to hunt from the person in charge. I'm sure some others have been in there from time to time, but I guess I'll be the first person with "official" permission to hunt. I'm looking forward to it when it warms up a bit.

I've been lurking here for a while and have absorbed a lot of good information. Thank you.

I have a technical background and understand the electronics side of metal detectors. I even know a person that designs chips for detectors, but mostly commercial applications like food production and security.

Anyway I'm looking forward to getting back into the hobby.

Thanks,
-Joe

Joe, welcome to T-Net and welcome back to detecting! Let us know how you do in the park and was thinking you might want to get the permission in-writing (if you haven't already) when someone asks you what you're doing there. Best of luck!

Hey Joe welcome to tnet. That’s exactly what I did before I joined. I try to get here everyday to see what everyone is finding. I’ve learned a lot from this forum. I’m impressed by how knowledgeable these people on here are when you need an ID or simply just want to ask a question someone usually has an answer for you. You won’t be disappointed.

I should also mention to be very careful how you dig in that park and only bring a hand digging tool, not a shovel. Also, pick-up any trash you see on the ground. It's always a good thing to mention that you're removing litter to the person questioning why you're there.

Yes, I have it via email from the Director of the Parks Department. I'll have the printed copy with me when I hunt!

Thanks,
-Joe

Yes, I gave my word that I'll leave no indication I was ever there except my footprints. I also told him that I will send him pics of anything of historical value I may find. I respect history and I care more about finding out what was there than I do about finding anything of value. I may be in the vast minority, but I'm not looking for the million dollar coin or relic.

Thanks,
-Joe
