It's unlike any pot I've ever seen... Age and use?

As the title says, I can see it's a stock pot of some kind, but the round bottom is throwing me off. What would it be used for? And how old might it be? The inside looks the same as the outside minus the colorful pattern. I can't seem to find any sort of maker's mark, if one is there it might be under the rust.

Yeah I wouldn't say it's a cauldron, it doesn't have round sides... The sides are straight like a normal stock pot's, it's just that round bottom id throwing me off

Is the enamel intact in the bottom inside? It looks like someone hammered it out from within giving it that shape ? HH

BK - it's very evenly shaped, I think there is/was some sort of pattern in the metal at the bottom but until I scrub it I won't know. I don't get the impression it's home-hammered, if you get my meaning; the shape is too perfect and unwarped.

And the enamel in side?

Yessir, at the same colonial-era site I've been surveying this past month. The house is still intact though deteriorating, and I'm told the farm was used up to about 6 years ago but to what extent I don't know. All that's left of the barn is the stone foundation. I seem to be finding a lot of artifacts that date from about the 1920s through the 1960s.

The enamel inside is fine, on the sides. The bottom on the inside is in the same condition as the outside.

Looks like an old enameled chamber pot / thunder mug that has had the bottom heaved by freezing water.

Okay, I guess that makes sense. That explains how it got the way it is. Now for age... would anyone here think it fits into the "1930-1960" timeframe of the rest of the stuff I've already found?

I would certainly think it might be prior to the 30's.. I can tell you definitely not the 60s

Well to me it looks modern and hammered out . I base this on the enamel pattern cause it looks more from the ;ate 1960's than from any other time period . IMHO , Woodstock

Impossible no one used those in the 60's

Could have been used as a planter, which might also explain the heave on the bottom!

That's true..I never thought of that. .

Believe it is very modern. Mom had one in the 1960's that she bought at Sears, I think. Cooked soup in it and was always worried that it would dip over and scald the dog. Always yelled at us three kids to be careful when it was on the stove...

Well, guess that excludes the chamber pot theory. .Lol!
