I found this yesterday and was surprised to see it is silver. Any ideas on what it is? Someone speculated it might be a pendent. My guess is it might be a lid. For some reason the tube at the end looks like a hinge. The weight is 11.9 grams

top flap on an inkwell?

I'm thinking the .925 stamp is actually on the back, is there anything on the other side?

I like unclemac's suggestion, although the 'hinge portion' seems a tad big for an inkwell flap. :icon_scratch:

I suspect it’s fairly modern. The .925 without a hallmark is not something you generally see on antiques. I would guess it’s a slide pendant.

Their are no engravings on the piece other than the hallmark and .925 stamp. I cleaned the dirt out of the tube and it is smooth inside.

The picture RANDAZZO1 posted looks like an exact match. Thank you!

So, i am inclined to believe this is a slide pendent. Never heard that term before but I learn something new every day. Maybe the ugliest pendent i have ever found!

Anyone recognize the Hallmark?

The maker's mark appears to be an intertwined J and C.

Although it's not his usual mark, I think the similarity suggests it's a variation on the 'JC' mark used by Jorge 'Chato' Castillo of Taxco, Mexico. He left Willian Spratling's Taller de Las Delicias in 1939 to help his brothers start Los Castllo and some of his earlier independent work was used by the company as prototypes for their jewellery. Notably, he produced a number of abstract/modernist pieces and I think this may be one of them.

This was his usual commercial mark post 1939

I don’t think it’s vintage Taxco. It would have Mexican hallmarks. You’re likely looking at a piece of jewelry made in the past 25 years.
