It's how I read it....what am I missing?

This is all on the Rachel Maddow blog. She is a gay "news" person on MSNBC. On the blog they posted what the president actually said in a speech during his recent visit to Ireland.

"Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity -- symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others -- these are not tangential to peace; they're essential to it. If towns remain divided -- if Catholics have their schools and buildings, and Protestants have theirs -- if we can't see ourselves in one another, if fear or resentment are allowed to harden, that encourages division. It discourages cooperation."

Then the blog's comment about how the right reacted to his speech was this.

"To hear the right tell it, the U.S. president issued a scathing attack on sectarian institutions."

Now, I have been accused of not understanding what I read so could someone please explain to me why I think the president attacked sectarian institutions in his speech? There must be something wrong with me. This is how our guns are being attacked; don't face the truth, understate the facts and accuse the right of being ignor$ant.

Welcome to the world of Obama. Such a shame...

I think the hardest job our next president will have is to apologize to the rest of the world for the dumb things our present administration has done and said and try to instill trust in our government and paint us in a positive way to those that have lost respect for us as a nation. I know, I know, the republican administration has said dumb things too, just not nearly to the magnitude of these people. If they want to take guns from those they consider dangerous then I'd like to propose taking the freedom of speech away from those that just say dumb things that lesson our positive image to the world. :)

packer, where there are religious schools, where language, ethnic standards, skin color, have to be met, those institutions normally teach hate toward "THE OTHERS"...
it is a time tested method to preach hate.

there was a program on the local PBS last night ...about Hasidic schools in new York city...how the kids are not taught certain words...evolution gymnasium..ect...

not supporting anyone or any topic here...but exclusion leads to violence...
that is how the muslims in many parts of the world created this mess were are in now...

not saying we should all squeeze into a sleeping bag...but exclusion leads to fanaticism, the last step to conflict.

He could apologize until he is blue in the face.. But the facts remain he is a terrible leader and a tyrant in my opinion.. The only thing he managed to do was to make it easier than it already was to be a lazy bum and feed off of the govt.. He made no real improvements with his time in office and I for one don't see any coming in the near future.. However if I am sure some will disagree with me.. He has tried to abuse his power and grow his bank account with his time in office and I can't wait for him to be out of office.. He is nothing more than a novelty president..

what religions are out there teaching hate? hmmmmmm.........

I read this as his objection to diversity. I could be wrong, but think he is actually afraid of educated people, those who have the ability to see thru his theory on a strong central govt, that does all thing for all people. This is one of the very things that the founding fathers were afraid of, especially our Southern brothers, who were the strongest advocates for States rights, and not a strong federal govt., He believes that his reelection has given him a mandate to further accelerate his agenda of distribution of wealth, health care for all, and the constant giving of aid to those country's that don't like us.

Lighten up. He was referring to the horrible division in Northern Ireland between the protestants and catholics that has claimed so many lives and continues, after decades to divide the Irish people. Northern Ireland is a sore spot in an otherwise Catholic country and I think that he was saying that getting rid of separate schools would help. Yeah, he's still a turkey, but I think he meant well in this case...

So he's just talking about Ireland? I see, in other words Americans are above all that violence caused by privatizing of schools etc.? He's over in a foreign country telling THEM what has caused the violence in their country?? Why did we send our troops to Iraq and Afghanistan when we just need Obama to go over there and tell them how to get along? He needs to stay out of other country's problems and start taking care of a few of ours. If this administration spent as much time trying to fix our economy as they do trying to take our guns we wouldn't have the problems we have now. Of course, if they use the same methods to fix our economy as they do trying to get our guns, that will never get fixed either.

A bishop in Northern Ireland is accusing the president of a “hackneyed” analysis of politics in the nation and how religious schools play into the issue.“While so many young people are very open to new friendships and opportunities, it needs to be stated that it is adults outside schools who promote mistrust for their own political and personal agendas,” said Auxiliary Bishop Donal McKeown of Down and Connor,
