What type of coin is this and...

It is silver. Found on the beach. I think it's stamped in the corner though with the word Bahamas. Weighs 1.23 grams and is about the size of a dime.

Is it real or is it fake? What has me wondering is I found it in the same spot I'm finding old bronze ship nails.

Thanks

I thought so too partly because of the BAHAMAS on the one spot but what's throwing me is it was found where I'm finding bronze ship spikes. But then again I live in a town where they sell fake spanish coins too.....but the fake ones in the shops are not real silver, this one is silver.

Several companies sell repros in silver in various pendant forms. This one (with a bail for suspension rather than a piercing) is in Sterling silver from Crisol Jewelry in Florida. Priced at £17 ($21). They also do solid gold repros of various 'pirate' coins.

I'm not sure whether what you can see on yours is 'Bahamas' or something else but for sure it doesn't belong on the original coin and is presumably someone's way of indicating it's a repro as a matter of responsibility.

1 - I don't think BAHAMAS is the word.
2 - A manufacturer of jewelry-grade repros would not place the hole so close to the edge.

Get it checked by an expert.

I have some I found in my safe deposit box but it has been a long time since I actually held one in my hand and inspected them. I notice the Mexico mint mark but isn't that a gold escudo? Im just going by my fading memory lol.

If you are buying it then it is fake, if you are selling it then it is unauthenticated, all sales final.

Actually BAHAMAS might be what collectors call a counter stamp. it could be worth more because of it.

Thanks Here's a better picture (I hope) of the "Bahamas" I can see it clearly here but getting a picture to show is another thing :)
